I have been a member of this free paid survey/offer site since 2009. So far it is the only online business that has paid me. Not everyone likes the idea of their information floating around the web, and GPT (get paid to) are not for everyone. But, if you don't mind a few extra articles of spam mail, and checking an extra spam email account for confirmation notices now and then, then you could make some good money on GPTs.

Cashcrate is the best so far, and I've tried a lot over the years. they have tons and I mean TONS of free and paying surveys and offers. A point award system where you can use points to purchase useful gift cards (Walmart, Amazon etc.) or ipads, xbox etc. A referral system that starts at 20% and pays two tiers. A very active forum with helpful and cheerful mods. Plus the site is very user friendly. Did I mention the low minimum payout of $20?! I have a check in the mail as we speak (or as I am typing this lol).

Either way it is a great place to check out. I highly suggest you do!

Mystery Shopping

I have yet to try out a mystery shopping job, but it looks interesting. I signed up for about four companies and decided I would not pay a subscription to any agency. I checked out the BBB score on all four I signed up for and so far been approved for one, the others are pending my application status.

The jobs are things like visit a fast food establishment or go to a grocery and purchase lunch meat, things we already do. You pay for the product, get the reciept and fax or email a copy of the receipt and a short essay or form about your visit along with any other documents the job might require (sometimes they want pictures of the store etc.). In turn they will mail out a check and reimburse you for the items you bought and give you a fee. Its kind of like rebate with a bonus.

The site I used is called MSPA. They are a listing agent that lists the mystery shopping jobs in your area, like Texas Work Force does for jobs on their website. But I highly caution anyone to look up the companies offering each job and make sure they check out with the BBB before registering. Also remember you never should have to pay to work.

Spring/Woodlands Grocery Picks 10/26

This week is slim pickings for grocery deals. That's ok because Randalls had such huge savings last week that I stocked up on a lot of different things. Dollar Tree for Halloween

Save money this Halloween by getting your candy from Dollar Tree. Even with coupons, most bags of Halloween candy are $3 or more. Dollar Tree has bags of candy for $1 and no coupon necessary. They also have some costume accessorizes that I am using to put together my kids costumes this year, fairy wings, tiaras, etc. for, you guessed it, $1 each. They also sell glow sticks which are essential for Halloween night when its dark and makes the kids more visible to drivers. Either way there's a lot more than I expected from that store. FYI they do NOT accept coupons so leave the binders at home ladies.

Saved 52% at Randalls

Yesterday I went to Randalls in Gorgon's Mill Shopping Center and saved 52% on my groceries. As many know, Randalls doubles coupons but the real reason for this post is to let people know about their clearance section. It was huge, there's a lot on food and non food on clearance. I didn't write everything down but all of it was marked 50% off and included things like Tide, peanut butter and jelly, dry beans and rice. I love buying cheap staples and stocking up.

Other deals I found were Glad trash bags at Target for $3.50 and a dozen eggs at Kroger for $0.99. Otherwise the groceries didn't have much else impressive.

Stores in Spring, TX that triple and double coupons

I currently live in Spring, TX and the two stores in my area that double and triple coupons are Randalls on 4775 W. Panther Creek Dr. and Hodges Food Basket 26824 I-45 N in Spring, TX.

Randalls will triple any coupon 1¢- 39¢ and double any coupon 40¢-50¢. Randalls will only triple and double the first like coupon, so if you have more than one of the same coupon to double or triple you would have to do separate transactions for each like coupon.

**For example, Randalls had Colgate toothpaste on sale for 99¢, and I had six coupons for 50¢ off any Colgate toothpaste. I had to separate the toothpastes in 6 different transactions in order for the coupons to double making all six toothpastes free.**

Food Basket will triple any first like coupons 1¢-50¢, and double second like coupons 1¢-50¢, but they do not allow more than one transaction per visit.

**An example would be if I had two coupons for 25¢ off Heinz ketchup  which is on sale for 99¢. The first coupon would be tripled to 75¢ off one bottle of ketchup and the next coupon would double to the value of 50¢ off the second bottle of ketchup.**

Printable Coupons

I have a lot of friends and family ask me what sites I use to print coupons. A lot of them express to me how annoying it is when they search for printable coupons online and get a million websites in their search that just refer them to other websites. The answer is simple: go back to the source.

What do I mean by "go back to the source"? Simple, think about where coupons come from. The manufacturers and the companies that put the inserts in the Sunday paper. So we should start looking in those places for printables first.

Most manufacturer's websites will have a promotional area that will list any coupons or promotions available. Many manufacturers put coupons and other offers on their Facebook page, which is why it is important to be plugged into an online couponing community. I highly suggest Slick Deals and WUC (we use coupons). Next you will want to check the companies that put the inserts in the Sunday paper. They are Smart Source, Red Plum (aka Valassis) and P&G. Both Smart Source and Red Plum have internet printable coupons but P&G does not; what it does have is a mailer you sign up for that comes out every few months. Last but definitely not least I use Coupons.com. This site is the most widely accepted site for printable coupons for grocery stores.

A few things I'd like to mention about printable coupons that is very important. One, is about making several copies of printable coupons. It wouldn't strike some as surprising that it is illegal to take coupons from the newspaper, copy them with a copy machine and try to use them in a store. But many people do not realize that you cannot print several copies of internet coupons. Do not save the image of the coupon and attempt to print it off as this is illegal. Each internet coupon comes with a spare UPC code that is unique to each printed coupon, so a manufacturer can limit customers to a certain amount of prints per family. Internet printable coupons are usually limited to two per computer. For example, if there was a coupon for Tide laundry detergent and I have a home computer I could print off two of the same coupons and still be able to use both because the upc codes would be different. If I wanted to be extra savvy I could also use my son's computer and print out two more so that I would have a total of 4 legit coupons. This is not illegal. There are instances however, that a manufacturer will allow more than two prints per computer, this is usually when you have bought a product and need to enter a code or a number on the purchased package to get the coupons. Use common sense when printing coupons off the internet make sure the coupon is from a source you can trust like the ones mentioned above to discourage any issues you may encounter at the checkout lane.

A few more tips to make coupon printing easy, cheaper and more enjoyable:

• You do not have to print coupons in color (save your expensive ink)
• Coupons normally print 3 per page uniformly when from the same source, so you can stack several pages and cut out several at a time.
• Printable coupons generally have a shorter life span, around 30 days or shorter, so print frugally.
• Sometimes you will run across store specific printables that will display the name of the store and possibly a logo, this means the coupon is only good at that certain grocer or store. Make sure you read the coupon carefully and look for the words manufacturer's coupon, if you do not see these words it is likely a store specific coupon.

Randalls Deal

My Randalls trip was a short one this time. Today only they had six packs of Viva paper towels for $5 and I used a 50¢/1 which doubled, also I got 6 FREE Colgate toothpastes 4oz. which were on sale for 99¢. The coupon I used was in this past Sunday's paper and was 50¢/1 which doubled making the items free.

Randalls had some BOGO on produce and other items but when I looked at the price of the item you buy it was seriously high. For example, the cantaloupe was BOGO, sounded good till I saw the tiny price was $3.99 for the one you pay for. That's $1.50 ea. which is not a deal. Lesson learned if it looks like a deal double check, sometimes stores will just use lingo to get you to buy, allowing you to think you saved money when you have not.

Saving on organics

It's been a while since I posted anything. I moved to Spring and then had my tonsils out so right now I'm recovering at my family's house. 

Today I want to touch on a topic that many would-be coupon users or anti-couponers find to be their biggest obstacle. It’s the belief that coupons are mostly for junk food and the myth that there are no coupons for organics. Also a little of my own beliefs about organics and getting the best food you can in your circumstance.

Everyone wants to feed their families healthy, fast and easy meals; and I’m sure the public is quite educated on exactly what healthy is, though some vary in beliefs. Organic, whole grain, less sugar, low fat and natural are the new hype words for “healthy” food today. Is it possible for a busy working or even stay at home mom to cook 100% healthy 100% of the time? I believe realistically no, but it doesn’t hurt to try your best, right?

Organics and other health foods; the good, the bad and the expensive:

Our FDA has regulated that for something to display the word organic on its package it has to have 95% organic material, so 5% of the ingredients are not organic and usually the funky additives that’s in the cheaper non-organic stuff. Also organic doesn’t mean its not a GMO (genetically modified food), and before you start thinking what’s the big deal about getting a bigger juicer tomato, GMOs have led way to less nutritious produce (kick out the nutrition genes and keep the size and longer lasting genes) and also stranger things like a type of genetic pesticide so the tomato repels and sickens the bugs instead of inviting them, makes you wonder what it does to our kids. But that’s in all our food organic or not, it’s pretty inescapable.

So what’s the best solution for produce? Gardening. Even if you live in the desert you can container garden. Years ago the average family had a victory garden, so don’t think it’s impossible.

 Next let’s talk about organic meat. These are pricey and yet well worth it. But some people just can’t afford it. Even if it is just part time it’s financially feasible to incorporate organic meats into the family budget. One tricky way is to go to the store (HEB has awesome organic selection of meats) and look at the dates of the meat, make a note of them and ask the butcher how far before or after the date they put it on sale. Go for the sale, your meat will be slightly higher than the best cut of regular un-organic. Also you can use less meat. Make a pound stretch over two dinners and shrink that waistline.

Organic dairy is nice and almost indispensible. I get coupons for it all the time so I never have to pay full price. When an organic dairy coupon comes out in the paper remember to buy extra papers and email the organic companies often.

Lastly is packaged organic foods. These I tend to avoid since they are little different than their non-organic counterparts and vastly higher in price and rarely on sale. Organic corn syrup is just as bad for you as regular corn syrup, the processing is worse than how its grown. Processed food= little nutrition= no value.

So in conclusion yes there are ways to save and make organic (better) eating much more affordable. Yes there are organic coupons available on a regular basis. Its up to each one of us how much time and effort we are going to put into our health. Little effort gives little rewards, as for great efforts reap great rewards.

Walgreens run 6/12

This run requires you to use between $5-$6 depending on tax and filler item. The coupons required are all from this Sunday's paper 6/12. The retail total of all items is $25.96 and depending on filler (assuming its under $1) savings of 88%-77%. If your Walgreens is 24 hours they may have a stock issue due to people coming in at midnight for the sale, its important to get to know your store and the volume of people it services. I personally have to go to 2 stores to get what I need because of stock problems for both Walgreens and CVS.

My first impression of Hodges Food Baket

I visited the store for the first time yesterday. When you walk through the doors its a blast form the past Texas style. The workers are nice and the customers shopping all seemed to be in a great mood while there. The owners work there and make sure they greet everyone, its cute and quaint and its selection caters to Houstonian tastes. The produce was fresh, the meat looked good and the way the aisles were set up made me somewhat nostalgic for the days before the big warehouse stores. The parking was ample and the store was easy to get to.

On the flip side the prices were hit or miss, some were really good like the bread for 77¢, some were pretty steep. I probably will only shop there by sales ad.

Overall I was impressed with the store, they are friendly , have good deals, and good quality items. Makes you wonder why you would want to step foot into a Walmart again.

Hodge's Food Basket Coupon Policy

Hodge's Food Basket coupon policy as follows:

• Manufacturer's coupons and printed manufacturer's coupons taken 
• They do not accept photocopies of coupons, all coupons must be valid and unexpired
• Any first manufacturer's coupon 1¢-50¢ is tripled
• Any second manufacturer's coupon 1¢-50¢ is doubled
• Any third manufacturer's coupon is discounted as coupon states
• Only one transaction is allowed for tripling and doubling coupons, no multiple transactions.

Food Basket will triple any first like coupons 1¢-50¢, and double second like coupons 1¢-50¢, but they do not allow more than one transaction per visit.

**An example would be if I had two coupons for 25¢ off Heinz ketchup  which is on sale for 99¢. The first coupon would be tripled to 75¢ off one bottle of ketchup and the next coupon would double to the value of 50¢ off the second bottle of ketchup.**
